Family Films in Washington Park: Planet 51The Michigan City Public Library and the City of Michigan City are collaborating again this year to bring family films to the Jaycee Stage in Washington Park. Planet 51 will be shown July 16. American astronaut Chuck Baker thinks he's the first to step on Planet 51, but to his surprise, he's the invader! Movies begin right after sunset (about 8:30pm). The films are free. Cars will be subject to regular parking charges. Mark your calendar for the last movie of the season, Alice in Wonderland, to be shown August 27.

Heart and Soul by Maeve Binchy will be reviewed by Hilda DeMuth-Lutze for the July Bookmarks proram. With the insight, humor, and compassion we have come to expect from her, Maeve Binchy tells a story of family, friends, patients, and staff who are part of a heart clinic in a community caught between the old and new Ireland. Dr. Clara Casey has been offered the thankless job of establishing the underfunded clinic and agrees to take it on for a year. Before long, the clinic is established as an essential part of the community and Clara must decide whether or not to leave a place where lives are saved and courage is rewarded.

Visit Opatija, Roman Pula, Rovinj and other charming fishing villages on the Adriatic Sea. Travel inland to a high plateau town.

The Learning Center needs tutors especially for reading. If you'd like to help someone learn to write and punctuate a sentence, your help is needed. Many people going back to school lack some basic skills. You can help someone help themselves and find personal reward, too. Math, English, and writing tutors are also needed. Call Cyndie McKinney at 219-873-3043 for more information about becoming a volunteer tutor.
Michigan City Public Library is dedicated to bringing exciting programs to you and your family. If you are interested in attending or presenting a program, contact the Library Public Relations Office at 219-873-3049 or e-mail rkohn@mclib.org.
